Orlando, (Orange and Seminole Counties, the northern sections of Osceola County
and the southern sections of Volusia County) consists of 23,000 persons living in 9,000 Jewish
households as of 1993. Of these 23,000 persons, 19,000 are Jewish.
The population in Jewish households increased from 17,000 persons in 1985 to 23,000
persons in 1993, the latest year for which data are available.
12% (2,800 persons) of the population are age 65 and over, including 4% (900 persons)
who are age 75 and over. 23% (2,700 persons) are age 17 and under.
Of the 9,000 Jewish households, 34% contain children age 0-17; 18%, a single person
living alone; and 30%, a married couple with no children living at home.
The median household income is $59,000 (in 2004 dollars).
2% of households are Orthodox, 33% are Conservative, 30% are Reform, and 35% are Just
Jewish. 33% of Jews never attend synagogue services and 21% attend once per month or
more. 32% of married couples are intermarried.
34% of households are synagogue members. Of those who are synagogue members, 3%
are members of an Orthodox synagogue; 61%, a Conservative synagogue; and 36%, a
Reform synagogue.
17% of households are members of the Jewish Community Center (JCC). 36% of households
participated in a JCC activity in the past year. 30% of households are members of some
Jewish organization, such as B’nai B’rith or Hadassah.
34% of households have visited Israel.
31% of Jewish adults experienced anti-Semitism in Greater Orlando in the past year. 56%
of Jewish adults perceive a great deal or a moderate amount of anti-Semitism in Greater
Orlando.
58% of households donated to a Jewish charity in the past year; 71%, to a non-Jewish
charity; and 30%, to the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando. The average donation to the
local Jewish Federation in the past year was $191.
